Personal Hygiene Associated with Puberty
Puberty is an interesting point in time, and understanding that change is normal is very important. These changes may seem drastic, but always remember that everyone experiences what they are going through at a different time or rate. There are two things that can benefit you greatly during this change in hormones and body development.
Facecare:
Your skin is probably the most important form of hygiene to cover, as oily skin, pimples, and dry skin can all be common occurrences for tweens. Here are a few steps on how to tackle some of these complications:
- Washing your face: Using a face wash or cleanser to clean out pores is very key, as you will most likely have a buildup of oils, sweat, dirt, and other particles from your environment embedded in your skin. So being attentive and thoughtful about this process might help you keep clean.
- Moisturizing: After washing your face, if you place some moisturizer on your face, you can successfully hydrate your skin.
- Picking: If you pick at any pimples, it might cause scarring and ultimately be worse for your integumentary system (The outer layer of your body: your skin, hair nails, & glands; Acts as the first line of defense against bacteria)
Body odor:
Your gland secretion changes the way you smell; this is due to sweat and bacteria. Maintaining this is not difficult; it just requires care!
- Showers: Cleansing your body once a day will help keep the smell away.
- Deodorant: To attempt to avoid armpit stench, applying an antiperspirant to your underarms might help fight that smell.
- Cleaning clothes: Washing your clothes after use will help prevent odors and bacteria development.
Using these tips might help one feel good about themselves & improve self esteem, and always remember change is normal!
