What is coming out?

Coming out is a gender identity and sexual orientation acceptance process that an LGBTQAI+ person goes through. During the process, you will become comfortable with openly sharing your identity with others. It is important and healthy to share your feelings with people you trust. Most people choose to open up and be honest with close friends and family members first.

Fact:

The average age for coming out to family members or close friends is age 20.

What can I do?

Talk to friends and family that you trust. The process can evoke feelings of anxiety and depression. Talking to other LGBT people about their experience will help you determine if you are ready to come out. It is ultimately a personal choice that you accept when you are ready.
